RT Stuart is a well known name in Fife. The business that is now in its 150th year is best known for its bakers shops but last year they expanded their butchery business to add a shop in Lundin Links to the two in Leven and Buckhaven.
After taking over on 22nd June 2005 Butchery Director, Derek McMahon and Jan Stuart, wife of Managing Director Alan, quickly drew up plans to transform the butchers shop into a butchers and bakers that is a prime example of how to create a good food shop. All the work took place in the space of ten days in late August 2005.
The floor was re-tiled, new lights and a new 18 metre run of counters installed and a dairy cabinet fitted. Local manpower had everything ready for Watco to place the Crioscabin units. The bakers display counter is also refrigerated with extra shelves for filled sandwiches.
The six metre dairy cabinet stocks juice, cheese, pat�, curry sauce, jelly, fish and even desserts. Derek explained �this is very much a village shop, we stock what the locals ask for.�
Having heard of the threat of closure, customers were delighted when they learned that RT Stuart had bought their shop and the reaction to the extensive range has been very good. �They never had the choice or the selection before.
We are lucky that there is a good average spend and the summer visitors are keen on our barbecue products.� The butchery and bakery counters are served by their own dedicated staff. The back wall unit that holds steak pies, haggis, puddings and has a steak deck on the base is the only item of equipment that was retained from the original shop.
All manufactured goods are prepared centrally from their Methil factory. Beef and lamb is supplied primarily from Mathers of Inverurie; pork from Robertsons with Millers of Speyside supplementing the fresh meat order. Bacon comes in sliced packs from Ramsays of Carluke. Derek McMahon has been 18 years with RT Stuart and he has demonstrated by winning many awards over the years that he knows what makes a good product. Whether it is a speciality sausage, a spiced rack of lamb or just another interesting invention using chicken, the counters at Stuarts are always filled with exciting offerings.
Now at this butchers in Lundin Links as well as buying their butcher meat customers can buy fresh bakery goods and even more�..Alan Stuart is the man behind the World Scotch Pie Club and his shops always sell fine pastry products.
Robinson Crusoe may have been inspired by a local but residents and holidaymakers need only follow the footsteps in the sand that take you to RT Stuart.
