There
were 59 entries in the first ever Scottish Potted Meat Evaluation. After the
deliberation of the judges at Perth College there were 5 Regional Champions plus 3 Gold Awards and 17 Silver.
The
awards were presented at the SFMTA Regional meetings held in May 2008 starting
with the South East on Monday 19th May. Paul Boyle of Boghall Butchers lifted
the Regional title there and on Tuesday night Tom Courts from Cowdenbeath was awarded the East of Scotland title.
At Ayr on Thursday 22nd May Colin Hewitson of KRH (pictured below) was present to hand over the
certificate to the South West Scotland Champion, We Hae Meat from Girvan.
All these products went into the final against the two other regional champions
- WP Tulloch from Paisley and Davidson Specialist Butchers from Inverurie.
The Scottish
Champion was determined by the specialist judges at Food Innovation @ Abertay
and the title for Scotland's best Potted Meat went to the North of Scotland
Champion - Davidson Specialist Butchers.
