Hamilton Accies may well be challenging for promotion to the Scottish Premiership but the Newcross Centre butchers, Hendersons of Hamilton have just won an award that puts them in the top echelon of Scottish sausage makers. |

Their Beef Sausages were initially judged the best in the West of Scotland but then after mystery shoppers purchased the five regional champions from throughout Scotland, the Hamilton butchers found out it was them who had the real recipe for success. The Scottish Final was held in May in Perth, bringing together other regional champions from East Lothian, Inverness, Falkirk and Saltcoats.
A panel of experts were then given the tough task of picking the winner but they decided Hendersons of Hamilton was the best butcher's Beef Sausages in Scotland for 2014. |
| Andrew Henderson said:-
“We are delighted at winning such a prestigious championship and to be declared the Scottish Beef Sausage Champions. The sausages are made here in the shop at Hamilton to the same recipe that my father used back in the 1970s. We use only prime cuts of scotch beef blended with the finest of spices and peppers. Beef Sausages are our top selling line and are clearly a favourite with our customers here in Hamilton. |
“Ronnie, who has been employed with the business for over 20 years, travels from his home town in Ayr to make all our sausages and burgers fresh daily.
“We also have a variation to the original recipe for the health conscious and for those with specific dietary requirements – this gluten free sausage has a reduced salt and fat content and is proving very popular with coeliacs and members of slimming groups.” |

Making the presentation on Tuesday 20th May, Douglas Scott, Chief Executive of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders said
“Every butcher in Scotland makes sausages that he or she thinks are the best. It is a tricky business trying to get the balance of seasoning, texture and size that is going to be the most popular. Clearly Hendersons have worked on their product and listened to their customers' feedback, to come up with a winning formula that is appreciated not just in Hamilton.
“This is a much coveted award so Andrew Henderson, Ronnie, the rest of the staff and customers can celebrate coming out on top and bringing fame to Hamilton.”
