Chicken Supply Fears
SFMTA recommends that you find a new supplier ASAP and possibly get some product from that new supplier w/c 07/04/08.
Munros of Dingwall are one of a number of local distributors that Grampian Country Chickens hope to use to sell their product.
Following a meeting with Mark Aikman, Sales and Marketing Director of Grampian Country Food Group at the SFMTA office on Thursday 3rd April, we understand that Grampian have the capacity and are keen to supply Scottish chickens for the Scottish independent butcher sector. They will be discussing distribution with a number of potential partners and we expect to have a list of distributors early w/c 07/04/08.
We know a deal has been struck by Grampian for Braehead Foods in Kilmarnock to distribute their chicken to all butchers on mainland Scotland. (I'm sure those of you on the islands know the ways and means of getting products over to you!)
Chickens will be slaughtered at Coupar Angus and shipped in bulk for distribution.
If you would like Braehead to supply you and you do not have an account with them, please contact us and we can fax an “Account Opening Form” to you.
Braehead will need your earliest delivery time and latest delivery time so that they plan routes. They operate no cash on-delivery process but direct debit your account on the 20th day of the following month. Direct debit forms would be sent to you after the Account Opening Form is processed.
Braehead Foods moved into new premises last Saturday incorporating a poultry cutting plant. Much of the equipment is being brought in from Grampian.

Prices: Yes there is a fear that an extra distributor (or even two in rural areas) will increase costs. It might take some time to settle down but expect increases until Braehead and Grampian can access volumes. This might not be as bad as it sounds since the big 4 multiple retailers are expected to increase their chicken prices by up to 30% by the end of the month. If they don't you will all be raiding supermarkets for their chicken fillets!
