Current restrictions and timetable for change
Containment of the virus has been deteriorating in the last fortnight. In part, rising cases can be attributed to greater testing. Hospital admissions and deaths remain low. However, the R rate – whilst not the sole indicator of the success of disease management – is still rising. It may be as high as 1.5 now in Scotland. The daily case average has risen from 14 cases a day (six weeks ago) to 52 cases a day (three weeks ago) and is now at 155 cases per day. As a result, the First Minister confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that Scotland would not move to Phase 4 of unwinding lockdown.
A new restriction on people meeting up has been introduced. That, alongside other changes, are summarised below:
From Monday 14 September
• No more than 6 people from two different households can meet socially, either indoors or outdoors. However, under 12s do not count in this limit. Some limited exemptions do apply.
• Face coverings are mandatory in hospitality venues for both staff and customers when not eating or drinking
From Monday 5 October (NOTE: this is just an indicative date and subject to review on 1 October)
• Some outdoor and indoor (seated) live events may begin
Download the new Test & Protect app in Scotland
The new app to assist with identifying contacts of Covid-19 positive cases launched yesterday (Thursday). In the first 12 hours, over half a million people across Scotland downloaded it. We would encourage everyone to do so.
The links to download it onto your phone and an explanation of how it works (including issue of privacy and data management) are all available here.
It takes roughly two minutes to set up on your phone.
