Covid update.
Nicola Surgeon has announced Glasgow will remain under level three restrictions for another week.
The first minister says the situation is stabilising and she is hopeful the city can move to level two by Saturday 5 June.
There have been 641 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the highest number since 25 March. Two new deaths have been reported.
The variant first identified in India is now thought to be responsible for 50% or more of daily new cases.
The reproduction (R) number could be as high as 1.3 across Scotland, according to the latest estimate.
Glasgow is the only part of the country currently subject to level three restrictions and levels in all areas remain unchanged.
Ms Sturgeon will confirm in parliament on Tuesday whether the rest of Scotland can move to level one on 7 June as planned.
High case rates are also being monitored in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Clackmannanshire, but they have lower absolute numbers of cases
Earlier, health officials voiced concern about case rates in Dundee which have risen rapidly over the past week.
COVID19 and UK food and nutrition security – your views please
The James Hutton Institute cordially invites you to participate in an online survey about the impacts of COVID-19 on the UK's food and nutrition security. We are seeking views from across the food system (producers, processors, retailers, logistics, academics, policy, consumers etc):
The pandemic has had a major impact on the UK at a time when uncertainty around Brexit has been growing, further challenging human health and environmental costs connected to the food system. The aim of the survey is to gain a detailed perspective of how the different sectors making up the UK's food system have been impacted and how lessons learned can usefully inform understanding of their types of risk. Your participation will help inform pandemic recovery planning and future food system resilience.
The survey is for research purposes and is conducted by The James Hutton Institute as part of the project “The UK's food and nutrition security during and after the COVID-19 pandemic” funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. The project partners are Chatham House and Cranfield University. We would be very grateful for your time in contributing. We anticipate c. 30 minutes to complete, but you have the option to provide written comments as well if you have the time. The results will be made available on the project website.
If for security concerns you would prefer to access the survey from a formal James Hutton Institute website, please go to the project page here: https://www.hutton.ac.uk/covid19foodnutrition
This survey is GDPR compliant, and we will not collect personal data. However, there is an option to voluntarily provide contact details and make statements that may be attributable in publications.
