Covid-19 parking restrictions are a concern for businesses
Temporary parking restrictions in some areas, to make way for social distancing measures have prompted a backlash from businesses.
This is something we feel we need to gather information on how many businesses this is impacting. We want to ensure that it is being implemented in a fair and reasonable manner and not just enforced.
Please can you let us know if this is happening in your area and we will highlight it with the appropriate bodies who we are in contact with weekly.
Scottish schools to fully reopen from 11 August
Scotland's schools have been given the go-ahead to reopen from 11 August by the first minister.
Guidance issued to councils said children should “return to school as quickly and as safely as possible”.
Nicola Sturgeon said she expected all pupils to be back in class full time from 18 August “at the very latest”.
The first minister also announced an end to shielding, but said “minimal” other changes would be made.
She said Scotland could remain in “phase three” of the government's route map out of lockdown for some time to come.
Furlough scheme changes
New law introduced to ensure furloughed employees receive redundancy payments based on pre-furlough pay rates
The Westminster Government has announced that with effect from 31st July 2020 statutory redundancy payments will be calculated on the basis of normal, pre-furlough pay. Although this should have no impact on calculations of redundancy pay for employees with normal working hours, employees with variable working hours and pay may otherwise have seen their redundancy payment reduced to reflect lower furlough leave rates of pay.
The same principle will be extended to other specific payments, including notice pay, which must be based on normal pay and paid at 100% and any calculation of payments for unfair dismissal.
Although this will not impact on employers who have been, as the government puts it “doing right” and assessing redundancy pay on pre-furlough pay, any employers who have followed current statutory rules to assess redundancy payments for employees with variable hours/pay should review those payments and contact the team at Lindsay's to discuss
