Death of Fred Stahly

Fred was SFMTA President in 1985/86, following in the footsteps of his father, also Fred who held the same office from 1959/60. Fred Junior was instrumental in setting up the Training department at SFMTA.

The Stahly business was established in 1923 in Kirkcaldy High Street. Fred continued the business that is now famous for its tinned haggis. Grandson of the founder, Ken Stahly, joined the family business in 1975, later taking over the running of the factory on the retiral of his parents in 1994. Ken developed the unique concept of producing tinned haggis in a skin.

Fred Stahly was the third of four generations of a butchering dynasty, founded back in the 19th century by his grandfather, called Stahl, who landed from Germany at Hull. When he reached Fife, specifically Lochgelly, he decided he was home.

Fred, a Past President of Kirkcaldy Rotary Club, is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Elaine and sons Derek and Ken. The condolences of everyone at SFMTA are extended to the Stahly family.
