General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

GDPR is a Europe-wide set of data protection laws designed to ensure a consistent approach to data privacy practice across Europe. The emphasis is on protecting citizens and their data, and giving people more information about, and control over how their personal data is used.

The GDPR applies to all organisations that use personal data so everyone needs to be prepared. Many of the fundamentals remain the same and build upon the data protection foundations that have been in place for a long time. Meeting the requirements for fairness, transparency, accuracy, security, minimisation, and respect for the rights of the individuals are things that organisations should already be doing.
