The Department for Transport (DfT) announced the new Plug-in Van grant along with plans to fund its Plug-in Car grant until 2015. This new scheme hopes to encourage an increase in the uptake of electric vans, which lags behind electric vehicle purchases due to their limited availability. However, with hybrid and electric commercial vehicles becoming more widely available, business and private consumers will have a greater choice of electric commercial vehicles.
