Whilst this is the eleventh case of pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza virus in pigs in the UK, it is the first in Scotland. Scottish Government does not plan to issue a news release however I attach some suggested lines to take and Q&A (which are not for publication) to help if dealing with enquiries.
Situation report
Two staff at the premises came down with flu like illnesses shortly before the pigs became poorly. The premises is an outdoor breeding farm. The private vet advised the owner on 2 February when the samples were collected, that the farm in question should be quarantined. The farm is aware of “the Influenza in Pigs: Code of Practice”.
