Irish Pork (and Beef) Update

Small traces of toxin have been found in Irish beef but not sufficient to justify a product recall.

As a result of a question initially raised by us at the meeting with the Minister on Sunday, but confirmed several times since if you have a significant stock (hams, gammon etc) pre Dec 7th it's still possible that this product may be placed on the market if you can produce a paper trail to verify the origin of the product and that it had no contact with the restricted feed or farms.

You should contact your vet or EHO immediately and in the meantime get your hands on the necessary paperwork from your supplier.

Prepare yourself for the possibility that this news may not have reached your inspector but it is reliable and you should insist on them facilitating you. We have been in touch with the Local Authority veterinary service which will do its best to assist.

This information also (in fact especially) applies to processors. However it does not apply to recalled product. So if product has not yet been physically removed from your premises to have any chance of being approved it should stay there.

Bord Bia is preparing a new label to identify pigmeat products that have been produced since the recall or which were not affected by it. We are discussing the format of this suitable for display in shops. We will keep you advised.
