Bluetongue Designation of a Slaughterhouse
We have been advised that 2 plants in Scotland have had their application approved to slaughter animals from a bluetongue virus restricted premises should an outbreak of bluetongue occur in Scotland. All meat plants should have been contacted by the FSS and given the forms to be completed should they wish to apply. While we don't have bluetongue in Scotland at the moment the expectation is that it is likely to get here at some stage.
Future of the National Living Wage
The Low Pay Commission has published its advice to the Government on the future of the National Living Wage. Among its recommendations is that it supports a move towards an adult rate that begins at 18 rather than 21. It claims that because there is strong demand for young workers such a move will not have a negative effect on employment. We will now have to wait and see how the Government responds and the direction in which it takes minimum wage policy. READ THE FULL REPORT
