Meeting our Potential
An important campaign has launched to support the future of the red meat industry in Scotland and we need your help.
#MeatingOurPotential is a partner campaign led by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and the Scottish Red Meat Resilience Group (a collaboration of organisations from across the supply chain). The simple aim is to inspire confidence in Scotland’s beef industry to grow the national herd and invest into the future, a couple of cows at a time. Importantly, the objective at the heart of the campaign is to meet the growing market demand for more beef from a growing population.
The campaign must unite producers, processors, marts, retailers, and consumers to build confidence, provide support, and grow a resilient, productive and profitable sector.
Backing Balanced School Meals: Defending Scottish Red Meat in Local Food Policy
We have co-signed a letter as part of the Scottish Red Meat Resilience Group to Perth & Kinross Council and Tayside Contracts, raising serious concerns about their partnership with ProVeg International. The letter challenges misleading claims made by ProVeg about livestock farming and highlights how such generalised messaging fails to reflect the unique environmental, nutritional, and economic context of red meat production in Scotland. It also underlines the potential negative impact on children’s health and rural communities if lean red meat is removed from school meals. We are urging local authorities to support food policies that are evidence-based, locally relevant, and aligned with Scottish dietary guidance and the Good Food Nation Act.
