Health & Safety Advisor Update – Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
We have had some emails this week on the subject of Portable Appliance Testing [PAT]. That is a lot of confusion on this topic that really does need addressed. For clients we have it all laid out in the Electrical section of your system manual. However to get the facts straight from the HSE you should follow the site details. https://www.hse.gov.uk/electricity/faq-portable-appliance-testing.htm
The main point to take from this is that all guidance on the site will highlight the legal requirements.
!. You do not have to test all items every year.
2.You must identify those items that are being moved on a regular basis and test them more frequently that static less moved items.
3.You do not have to employ an external company to undertake the testing, it can be done by a competent suitable employee with the necessary appropriate equipment.
4. You must ensure staff check the equipment prior to use.
