Plant Based Products using Meat Names

In July 2022, the French Government prohibited plant-based products from using meat related titles and labels. This decision was heavily attacked by “Protein of France”, a group of associations working on plant-based products, accusing it of being against EU treaties and the free movement of goods. As a result, the French suspended the new rule and have asked the European Court of Justice to take a decision on the legality of prohibiting plant-based products from using meat related titles and labels. The Court of Justice is now deliberating the topic. There is no scheduled date for the decision yet.
