Scottish Craft Butchers Festive Trade

Gordon, Bruce, Claire and all the team at Scottish Craft Butchers and Craft Skills Scotland wish you a very happy new year when it comes. We look forward to what 2024 brings and the opportunities a new year offers. We hope you and your staff have had a busy and smooth New Year trade. We also hope you all enjoy your well-earned rest at the end of this busy period.

As in previous years, and once you have had time to rest and reflect, we would appreciate your thoughts on how this year's festive trade went.

Were there any unusual trends in shopping habits?

Did you feel you had to close your order books early due to increased volume?

Is there any new/different items that consumers are asking for?

Are any traditional items such as geese making a comeback?

Did opening on the Sunday work out as planned? Did you feel justified not opening on Sunday if that is what you chose to do?

UK Sausage Week makes a welcome return in 2024

UK Sausage Week (UKSW) returns next year taking place over the 28 th October – 3 rd November period. The annual event was suspended during the Covid pandemic.

As usual butchers, supermarkets, foodservice and manufacturers across the UK are expected to be involved.

The week commences with a celebration lunch in London on 28 th October 2024, when the UK Supreme Sausage Champion will be revealed, alongside a host of category winners.

Dates for the UKSW national product competition to find next year's sausage champions will be announced early in the new year with full details of how to enter products for evaluation and judging.
