Less Healthy Food advertising restrictions

The Less Healthy Food (LHF) advertising restrictions came into force on 5 January 2026. The good news is that SMEs are exempt.

Legal exemption:
Paid advertising by SMEs (fewer than 250 employees) that promotes food or drink products they make or sell is exempt from the restrictions.

While the legislation applies across the whole of the UK and covers paid advertising for products classed as High Fat, Sugar or Salt (HFSS), SME-owned websites and advertising are not affected. This exemption should apply to your membership.
