With the introduction of the new regulations animal waste and bones will no longer be allowed to go to landfill. The cost to your business for a separate collection is likely to be high.
The following tips are there for you to consider to limit the cost to your business. We are making these suggestions to you for you to make up your own mind what is best for you in your local circumstances. Some of the suggestions are bending the law slightly and you should be aware that the local authority may not accept them and thus may stop you using them in the future.

ï‚· If you only have a small amount of bones can you bag and store in your chill so you only need a collection once a fortnight.
ï‚· Agree to share a bin with a local butcher.
ï‚· Use one bin between four or five butchers within you area. Work on a rotation with each shop taking its turn to be the collection point.
ï‚· Make stock with your bones. Even if you are not able to sell the stock the bones now cooked will be able to go into your normal waste bin.
ï‚· Ask your catering customers if they will take the bones from producing their products. Remember they will be allowed to put them in their bin as they are exempt. The difficulty will be to convince the EHO that the bones when given to caterer are still fit for human consumption.
