Stenhousemuir has an association with cattle droving that dates back well over 200 years. In 1785 it became the home of the Falkirk Tryst, one of the largest gatherings of livestock farmers and buyers from all over Scotland and beyond. In its heyday as many as 100,000 cattle were driven these from as far a field as the Outer Hebrides.
The word Tryst means romantic meeting or date and for that reason three cast iron cattle figures are mounted on a 'loveheart' of sandstone commemorating the link to the other famous local landmark, the Carron Ironworks. The cattle also stand as a permanent direction to the town's only butchers, Robert Brown and Son. Now run by Steven Brown this butcher literally trades on the doorstep of an ASDA supermarket.
