Ensuring the survival of island abattoirs is critical to sustaining rural communities, enabling local agriculture businesses to capture local economic benefits and helping sustain the outstanding natural island environment. The Scottish Island Abattoirs Association (SIAA) members enable:

Farmers and crofters to add value to their produce.
Tourism providers to promote local provenance.
Local people to have local food.

The island abattoirs provide access to meat that is local, high welfare, low intensity reared, traceable, extensively grazed, natural (no artificial inputs) with a low impact on the environment.
