Since Mearns T McCaskie established his butcher's business in 1936 it has been good neighbours to the Seaview Café in Wemyss Bay but when the business came up for sale the butchers were keen to take over the café.
Nigel Ovens is the grandson of the founder and he and his wife Helen have created a wonderful food emporium at the midway point between Greenock and Largs, just across from the Calmac ferry terminal for Rothesay. From 1966 the butcher's shop was continued under the direction of Nigel's mother, Elizabeth, and when her son came into the business in 1999 the shop was refurbished. Following that a programme of continual re-investment, a state of the art butchers fit to compete in these trying times was created. Not content with that they acquired the café on 31st March 2012 and after a total re-design and comprehensive refurbishment opened for business on Monday 9th July.
